Amazon took a huge amount of GLBT-themed fiction off their sales ranking lists (meaning they're yanked from the best seller lists AND they're a lot harder to find via searching). The stated reason was that they don't rank things with "adult material." Yet some of the things pulled were Heather Has Two Mommies and YA fiction, and gay romance that was on par with (and at Barnes & Noble, shelved with) het romance novels. In other words, not "adult material." Meanwhile, a book of Playboy centerfolds, a book on training dogs for dogfighting, and other similar things remain ranked.
It's another example of the clear and INCREDIBLY PERSISTENT double-standard regarding homosexual relationships -- this idea that homosexual relationships are inherently obscene and perverse. It was one of the arguments the Prop 8 supporters used, with their "onoez we'll have to teach first graders about gay sex!!!" claims; it's consistently applied in media, where gay couples aren't allowed the same level of physical affection as heterosexual couples, where a heterosexual couple in bed together rates a PG-13 and a homosexual couple rates an R. It's got to be one of the most widespread and insidious detriments to the GLBT community -- that we are inherently dirty, and that our love can never be as pure or normal as heterosexual love. And that's AWFUL. It's terrible and frightening how many people subconsciously (or consciously) believe this to be true.
Unrelated to the rant above, I don't think I'll ever understand Twitter.

Mar. 6th, 2009 10:43 amIs it just me, or is there ZERO official art of Iris? ARMSTRONG, WELLINGTON, AND MOE are at least on postcards. There're four sketches of concept art for Iris, and that's it. Oh wait, there's a page -- three poses: one with hood, two that are actually Dahlia-as-Iris >:(
It is very difficult to make graphics this way. And I don't want to steal fanart... Guess it's sprites for me.
In other news, I've started playing Rune Factory 2, and like the Harvest Moon games it's based on, it has stolen my soul and made my RL productivity grind to a halt. BUT MY BARN IS FULL OF MONSTERS AND I'M GROWING TONS OF STRAWBERRIES. My priorities are perfectly fine. :P

Feb. 16th, 2009 02:52 pmOkay, I was ambivalent toward the Phoenix Wright Takarazuka musical, but after watching this video... I'm stupidly excited. I make a :D :D :D face whenever I think about it. It pushes all of my awesomeness buttons: pseudo-femslash, pretty girls in suits, big, showy musical numbers, Girlshoe and Girl!Larry and Lotta! Heck, even Random-Heterosexual-Love-Interest!Leona doesn't really bother me. So... SQUEE! Interesting that they're using the English names, though; does anybody know why?
valentinite, I played through Spider and Web, and it was really neat. I had to go to the walkthrough a couple of times (once, with the door-scrambler puzzle, because I was THIS close to the right solution but had screwed up the timing and didn't realize it). A couple of the moments were really effective -- escaping the interrogation chamber was a big one. I just wish it were a little longer, gave us time to get more involved; I guess that's my main complaint with a number of games, because so many of the games are written for the IF Comp, with its two-hour playtime limit. I just started playing Anchorhead -- have you played that one, and if so, what did you think? I'm liking the atmosphere.
And finally (for now at least), I've gotten myself hooked on this game, a very clever and offensive forum-fighting browser-based RPG. I'm playing through as a Troll, with such attacks as ASCII Text Attack, Fap, and Spoil. Pretty entertaining.

Dec. 27th, 2008 02:42 pmMy internet access is kind of weird when I'm at home, so I'm kind of in and out of touch. I hope everyone had a great Christmas!
But my brother got me THE BEST THING EVER, so I must share a pic with you:

I also got a bunch of games, and I'm having fun. My big gift was Rock Band (slowpoke.jpg), and I'm banging my way through on the drums; so much fun. I also got Persona 4, Fallout 3, and Rune Factory 2 (aka Harvest Moon with monsters in it), but I haven't played them yet. I got my dad a couple GBA Castlevania games, because the last one he played was Castlevania Adventure(s?) for the original Game Boy, and he always liked that one.
And I also got Valkyria Chronicles, which I had only even heard about a couple of days before Christmas, but it sounded interesting. I'm really enjoying it. It's a strategy-RPG by Sega; it's kind of... heavily fantasized World War II. It's hard to explain. But the story is neat and so is the gameplay, and I really hope it doesn't turn out I'm the only person who's played this. AND IT HAS AIKA AND VYSE IN IT. You could call it a cameo, I guess, but they're playable characters (their profiles say "from a far-off land" :B) and they call each others' names when they die D: No Fina, though, but still, it's really cool!
And I still oweja_baby_ja a fic, which I will get on shortly. Things got really hectic, and I'm bad with deadlines BUT I'LL GET IT DONE DON'T WORRY I PROMISE.

And then we sat there. For two and a half hours. With a row of children behind me being obnoxious (though I can't say I blame them, except the little guy who kept kicking my seat). Everyone around me missed their connections -- but I had initially had a four hour layover, so I was alright. I read 200-some pages of The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Blubear, which kept me occupied.
And the low today is -20 degrees with the windchill here in my Midwestern hometown (-29 degrees for you Celsius folks), which is very much unusual. But I'm keeping cozy.

I'd like to do something for everybody in the spirit of the Christmas season, and since I am a poor student and wary about sending mail across the globe, I'm going to have to stick with fandom. ^_^
So comment to this post with a fic prompt/request/wish of some sort, and I will do my very best to write a ficlet or drabble for you and post it sometime on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day (I'll shoot for Christmas Eve, at least). It could be detailed or vague, fluffy, angsty, smutty, kinky, dark, light, cracktastic -- playing to my strengths (coughfemslashcough) will probably get the best results, but I won't say no to anything if it's something you really want. To show you I'm serious: this includes Gavincest. :P
Fandoms I can do... let's see. Ace Attorney, obviously, Fire Emblem 9/10, Azumanga Daioh, Maria-sama ga Miteru are all fandoms I'm pretty comfortable writing. But if you've seen me mention a fandom somewhere, I'm sure I could brush up enough to write something -- lots of video game fandoms, Harry Potter, Noir... yeah, feel free to ask for anything.

I even knew it was going to happen (tried to avoid spoilers but a few have found me anyway), but I cried. It kinda hits close to home for me, though. ): And the emulator lag in battles is driving me nuts, but I guess I'll get used to it.

OCTOBER 18-26 = FILL PROMPTS LIKE CRAZY
Some of you probably already know this, but it must be hyped! Hyped, I say! The point is to spend a week furiously filling as many prompts as we possibly can. To bring a surge of energy and fanworks to the PW Kink Meme, which will be a year old on Halloween!
A good way to find prompts you might like to fill is the kink meme's delicious account. Now's a good time to collect some and get some outlines done, if you're the type to go for outlines. Get excited! Go wild! Write something you were afraid to write before; write that fic that's been in your to-do pile for a few months now
It would suck so bad if this thing fell flat, so please, pimp it as much as possible. Post a message on your own journal, encourage others to post, encourage people who haven't been on the meme in a while to take another look, encourage new folks to check it out! Let's get this to web out as far as we can, get as many people as involved and pumped as possible :D
And I'm rambling and overusing exclamation points but WHOOO! So what are your plans for this epic event -- at least, the plans you don't mind discussing un-anon?
