Blah blah, Amazon fail; you've probably all heard this by now. Amazon took a huge amount of GLBT-themed fiction off their sales ranking lists (meaning they're yanked from the best seller lists AND they're a lot harder to find via searching). The stated reason was that they don't rank things with "adult material." Yet some of the things pulled were Heather Has Two Mommies and YA fiction, and gay romance that was on par with (and at Barnes & Noble, shelved with) het romance novels. In other words, not "adult material." Meanwhile, a book of Playboy centerfolds, a book on training dogs for dogfighting, and other similar things remain ranked.

It's another example of the clear and INCREDIBLY PERSISTENT double-standard regarding homosexual relationships -- this idea that homosexual relationships are inherently obscene and perverse. It was one of the arguments the Prop 8 supporters used, with their "onoez we'll have to teach first graders about gay sex!!!" claims; it's consistently applied in media, where gay couples aren't allowed the same level of physical affection as heterosexual couples, where a heterosexual couple in bed together rates a PG-13 and a homosexual couple rates an R. It's got to be one of the most widespread and insidious detriments to the GLBT community -- that we are inherently dirty, and that our love can never be as pure or normal as heterosexual love. And that's AWFUL. It's terrible and frightening how many people subconsciously (or consciously) believe this to be true.

Unrelated to the rant above, I don't think I'll ever understand Twitter.
